four : thirty-five p.m.

a stroke, and he runs a red light and totals his car.

another, and he collapses at his class reunion. hospital. jumbled words. internal bleeding. brain surgery. in a coma for over a week.

and you are so far away.

"my father is getting worse. i think his body is still strong, but his brain is shutting down. he has a really high fever. if it were up to me, i wouldn't want him to be like this, living off of machines.. will you still come to see me if everything is ok and doesn't explode?"
